Default What has my machine shop done to me.

I have a 82 that im redoing from ground up, and have decided to go with a TPI conversion on the engine. I modified the fuel rail and asked the machine shop to turn down a fitting that would then insert in fuel rail that would have a 3/8 fitting for the fuel line connection...

What i received ive just found out....after installing the tpi unit is something that is not 3/8...3/8 is too large and its not 5/16...5/16 is too small. any suggestions?? what could it be?

the fitting look like this. Im at a loss

it looks like it would be a -6 an fitting. which should be 3/8.

3/8 SAE is larger than 3/8(-6) JIC (AN), they look similar, but the SAE has a 45 deg flare and the JIC or AN as car guys call it has 37 deg flare. All other size SAE and AN (JIC) have the same thread size except -6.

I re-read that and it's confusing. If the line nut you are trying to put on the 3/8 male fitting is 3/8 SAE, it will be too big. Does the female use a 3/4 wrench or 11/16 ?

Connect to 3/8 steel line like carb fuel line? That type fitting is called inverted flare. I thought you were using braided hose

Ok, looked at the JEG's fitting, that one uses compression style on the steel line and AN on the other, that should work.

braided line...nope, but that might be an option.

I just need to get that fitting somehow attached to the original line down near the engine mount. I was planning on bending a hard line and ferrule it together, but im up to any option.

Ok, and you need to attach to the frame line? If so, you should have some kind of flex line where it transitions from frame to engine.

Those fittings should work fine. I used the Earl's version on my 3/8" hard line and I have seen no leaks. Super easy to install. The Earl's fitting is supposed to be good for 100 PSI. I'm guessing the Jeg's fitting is similar. Just run a -6 braided line from the fitting to the fuel rail and you should be all set.

If you have a local hydraulic line shop you could also get a SS braide line with the correct JIC fitting crimmed on. JIC does fit AN , you will use less fittings this way
