I need some power now!
I am frustrated at how slow the '74 vette is. I have an '94 lt1 Camaro and it hauls azz compared to the vette. Ofcoarse the camaro doesn't look as purdy as the vette. The vette kicks the maro's azz on looks easy. I was going to install the big block (498) on the vette but decided against it and it will be going back in a '86 camaro. That puts me back at square one with upgrading the engine for the vette. I am thinking heads and hyd roller cam. The engine appears to have been overhauled , so I am thinking the engine would take the new mods. There is another more expensive option , an lsx 6.0 engine with the carb intake and ignition management for the coils. That would be at about 3800.00 installed. The cam currently in that ls engine is a 650/650 hyd roller but that would be a bit to radical on a carbed engine. I was looking more into 580/600 lift.

Ok , after thinking about it and talking it over with my lady. I will put the bbc in the vette. What I need to figure out is the brackets needed for my power steering , alternator . I currently have some billet pulleys on my big block that use a serpentine belt. Any ideas??

Ok, to many replies there. This is the engine that is going in the vette. It will have a slightly smaller cam .

I guess it would depend on how you look at it. A real 74 big block can be worth some money, I would leave it close to stock.
Go hammer the hell out of the Camaro. Seems to me an identical engine in both cars and the Camaro will outrun the vette as a street car. Much cheaper to get parts for and modify. I've heard it said also a Camaro is easier to make lighter.
Just my opinion.

I converted my 74 vette to a BBC 427 w/ a 4 speed and it hauled ***!!!
I purchased all my brackets from Dr. Rebuild. He is mostly a catalog kind of outfit so google him up and order his catalog. He has exploded views of every year vette P/S,ALT,waterpump and A/C BB/SB

I appreciate all your opinions but I am set on making the vette faster and the project that gets all the attention at this point. I will probably just store the camaro . I have just fallen in love with the vette. Any money spent on cars will be for it! I keep reading alot of topics on this great forum . It's never ending and I like it.

I don't think it's original as this car currently has 305 heads(last 3 digits of casting are 434) . The vin code is V0616ckm . The previous owner tried at adding performance but in my opinion failed by going with those heads. Also the short block has been rebuilt it appears.

Thanks for the info, it will come in handy when I need to group those pullies. I will also install an a/c unit later on.
