Default diff fluid PITA

I just got finished changing my diff fluid. I dont know if it needed it but its the same fluid that came in the car when I got it so I just wanted to be sure it was the right stuff.

What a pain, the only suction syringe at autozone held 3 ounces at a time. Even warmed up that fluid is still pretty thick. Overall it took the 4oz bottle of GM additive, 2 full bottles of GM fluid and 2 ounces of a third to get the it to the weep hole. I had to open a third bottle for 2 ounces. Thats something I dont want to have to do again any time soon.

I still have to do this myself, but I think I'm going to remove the cover when I do this.

You could've just used a hand pump.

I used a Sears pump that connects to an electric drill. It needed a few fitting, but worked well for sucking out the oil and replacing the oil, in the differential. It was easy with my son as a helper.

I'm surprised you needed the extra 2 oz.

Not that I'm recommending it but years ago people would drill and tap for a 1/8 pipe plug. I remember there being a picture of where to drill.

that's alot of fluid. mine did not take near that much. like 1 1/2 quarts plus the additive. i used a friends minivac hand pump. took less than 3 minutes to get it all out. right tool for the right job. but sometimes you gotta do it what you have. been there done that. by using the vacuum pump method you will not get all the fluid out either.

Unless your car has been tweaked, you'll have to drop the diff with the cross member to use that approach. Much easier to "suck" it out.

w 2, 23 oz bottles of additives
2 more ounces,

figure maybe 1 to 2 ounces total for spillage/dripping.
