Default Edelbrock carb won't idle.....Help

I have a 71 vette that was sitting for 2 years. Stock 350 setup.
Has an Edelbrock carb with electric choke. It starts and runs fine and idles nice while the choke is on but once I kick down on the gas to cut off the choke it won't idle anymore, just dies.
So long as the choke plate is closed it idles perfect although a bit fast.

I've tried to adjust the 2 spring loaded screws on the front of the carb but it doesn't change a thing, the engine dies without the choke. I'm think this is carb related.
When I rev over 2500 rpm i'm getting some backfiring as well. I've tried to speed up the idle screw as well but that didn't help either.

Any suggestions as to where I should start, engine sounds healthy with no smoke knocking or any valve noise.

Thanks

Did you mean to post in the For Sale section? Must really be upsetting you....

You can bet it's carb related although it wouldn't hurt to check your timing too.

Might warrant taking the carb apart to see what has made a home inside....or may just be gummed up in a needle or float or something.
