I would guess 400 crank hp....maybe less since the car is light.

Forum member fuzzy dice recently had a 396 BBC in a 3600 pound '81 Camaro that ran 7.70 @ 88 MPH with a THM400, loose converter, 3.90:1 gear & 28" x 10.5" slicks ~ 5600 RPM shift

I believe that motor showed 340/350 RWHP before it expired @ PINKS last weekend

I think 350 flywheel hp would be enough. Using some hp/weight/speed calculators, I estimate my hp at 350. I'm running 8.0 in the 1/8 th, but with more weight, around 3,400. Same converter and rear as you.

I had a 78 trans am that ran 7.60s@89 with a mild 406" Pontiac. The car weighed 3600lb with me in it. 3.42s and a 10" 3200 stall. Suspension worked well...1.59 60's. Never dynoed it hut our best calculation was 425 crank hp....the converter was not efficient though.

This was just for comparison sake.

Right around 85.0. My car runs quick 60 ft times, 1.75 to 1.80, so that might distort the numbers a little.

A friend of mine who passed away a few years ago had a 67 Camaro we built for him that ran 7.60's in the eighth back in the 80's. The car was a very low buck build. 350 two bolt block .030" over with a cast crank, cast 12 to 1 generic pistons from PAW, an old TRW flat tappit cam with .480 lift and 235 duration @ .050", 461X Fulie cast heads I ported and did valve and seat work on, Z28 springs, stamped steel long slot rockers from PAW, a Holley Z28 intake manifold knock off I think they called the Street Dominator, 650 Holley Double Pumper with 1" open plate, open Hooker Super Comp headers, 350 tranny with a shift kit and a real cheap 3500 stall converter, 4.56 gears and used 28x10x15 slicks off my buddies Top Fuel Harley.

It infuriated a couple guys we knew with high buck cars because my buddy Bill always beat them. Can't tell you what the horsepower was. It never got near a dyno. The motor still runs to this day. His daughter has the car.
