good evening,

Following new legislation on our cars over 25 years in Belgium, you can not change the engine blocks or putting an engine bigger than the original !!!!!

I have an L48 of 76 transmission manual!!! that I want to sell to buy a model from 70 to 72!

not only Belgium the small engine L48 190HP nobody cares!

So I want to upgrade to 200 - 250HP

If I am understanding what you are wanting. You want to get the existing motor to have more power. The only way to get this done is to bore the block out and new heads and cam kit. High performance intake and headers will also be needed if you do this. If all you want is 200-250 hp it should not take much.

Let's hear what everyone else has to offer too. Good luck and let's see some pics of your car.

Do you have to keep the original block? I don't see how they could ID the original block? If they do, simply copy the original stamping into your new four bolt block. And can it be a new motor of lesser cubic inches? If so, put a LS1 in there, 346ci and light years ahead of any previous gen small block, especially in emissions controls.

How would they know if you put something bigger in? Do they really check all the numbers? If so... that sucks. What about a little stroker engine? Change up the compression, cam, heads, intake... that would give you the power and retain the current engine block. Since you are not wanting crazy power I think you goal is easy to reach but do it right the first time.

Best of luck... sucks about the new laws!

Tube headers and dual exhaust will get you about 25hp. Rebuild your stock Quadra-Jet, add an aftermarket intake manifold and a mild cam, and you'll be near 220-225hp without rankling the law makers.

I have my original L-48 block up over 350 hp. Better heads, free flowing exhaust, bigger cam, rejetted carb with new intake.

You are driving a 33 year Corvette in Europe. I doubt that anyone over there would be able to tell if you changed engines. A big block might be out but you could install a 434 cubic inch small block that looks externally just like a stock 350 and no-one would know unless you told them. The beauty of the small blcok Chevrolet is its easy of upgrades.

Exhaust, see what many refer to it as my Exhaust topic. http://www.corvettefaq.com/c3/ganeyexhaust.htm
Headers rec., however are optional.
Cam which L-48 needs badly. AL. intake can be done at same time as cam. The Q-J works well for many. Heads can be done later if wanted.
Tuning & Timing are basic & should go w/o saying.

See what is legal to change. If you can change the heads and intake, exhaust etc and all they are in is if it is the original block ( which doesn't make sense what if it was damaged ) then you put in a 3.75 or even a 4 inch stroke crank a big cam AFR 195's heads and you get yourself a 500HP motor with the original block.

IMHO it's high time we all stood up against the eco-***** before they literally take over the world. No kidding. Didn't anyone else notice what they said about "world governance" at the environmental summit? AAURGH!!!

Suggest joining SEMASAN as a place to start... http://www.semasan.com/main/main.asp...ANcom/HomePage

Anyway, best wishes for your project.

Is there a specialist in Belgium (or maybe anywhere in Benelux) that can build an engine for you? Might be less risk and more cost effective than picking parts out of a catalogue company in the US.

They are cracking down on things around where I live. I don't have to pass smog check but all the smog stuff has to be there as it was from the factory. Can't seem to find a Vic Jr with EGR

Anyway love the car but might sell it and get one that was built before the smog stuff came along.

I would soup the crap out of it 700+HP and put quiet mufflers on it with electric cutouts. I am looking right now. I got $600 in fines last year for non compliance with the smog *****, they could have taken the plates and towed it but the guy said it was too nice to tow away and let me drive it home. I have been driving this car around here for 15 years prior to that and never been pulled over.

I'll fix them yet, they don't know who they playing with

To the original poster. Like I said find out exactly what is legal, you can build a 408ci out of your L48 block that will put near 600HP and you can laugh at these azzholes picking on cars that are driven on the weekends and are just hobbies. F ing azzhats

The smog ***** were snooping around our area last summer. I got lucking and they missed me on the streets.

On my car, I need the EGR & A.I.R pump to be legal. I can fake an EGR but the A.I.R. pump is a bit more difficult. Hopefully it won't come to that.

Watch they don't get you for Stunt Driving next summer!

Easily 225...probably more.

All about opening flow up in the engine. You wouldn't even have to spend a lot on a pair of heads...find a cheap set of GM small chamber heads (<64CC) to replace your L48 smog heads and pocket port them. Assuming you are able to use headers and duals in Belgium, you'll have a nice little engine pretty easily.

How was the fine broken down? $300 per offence (assuming EGR & smog pump)?

You haven't expanded on the specific restrictions of this new law. Must it be the original block, or simply one of equal or less displacement (size)? Your best option being in Belgium may be to order a GMPP crate motor like a ZZ4.
