i have a 1970 w/ a 350 with hooker compitition headers (rusty) and i am looking into puting a new exhaust system on it. I am just not sure what to go with. Sidepipes are costly but look soo good. I wouldn't mind an undercar system but all the ones i have seen are not mandrel bend. I dont know if i should go with a 2in or 2 1/2in or even a 3in. Anybody know if a 3in will fit. Please give me sugestions on an exhaust system, pic would be nice too :) i am looking into new headers too, ideas? :cheers:

What kind of h.p are you running??? I think 2.5 is plenty forup to 500hp or so...I am running flowmaster Delta 40's with Dynomax headers...Nice :D

Sidepipes are :cool:
For a similiar sound but cheaper go with chambered exhaust.

Remember: Loud pipes save lives!

i put under car system chamberd on my 70 big block and it sounds great if you like the side pipe sound go for the under car system it comes pre bent 2.5 piping for about $300.00 :yesnod: :yesnod:

Can't be of much help but can someone explain what mandrel bent refers to?

Mandrel bending is a way of forming a pipe. Most headers are mandrel bent. If you look at the bends you will see how smooth the are as opposed to a standard pipe bender that distorts the pipe as it bends. Mandrel bent tubing flows much better.

I am using Hooker Competition Headers, 2.5" aluminum pipes, and Magna Flow Mufflers. The sound is great, and the performance is better.

Your vette sounds like it is nice. I was wondering how you did your crossover with the chambered exhaust, where is it and where did you buy your parts from? And one more thing, I have been trying to build a custom forced induction system for my 1970 corvette and i saw that you have one, how did you make it, got any pictures?

I think Corvette Central does the full sidepipe kit with pipes + fiberglass covers plus all mounting stuff for $700.. and with the discount less, so yeah, kinda expensive, but not horrifying. Also, keep an eye on ebay, I got a set for $385, pipes were mounted once and taken off, covers still just in primer, never mounted... so not bad at all... and way :cool: looking, and way sounding..

I LOVE side pipes...I can't imagine me having any other exhaust on the 'Vette but side pipes. The only sucky part is whenever you burn your legs on them (or your girlfriend does). Side pipes make working on the underside of the car a breeze. Removing the rear end or transmission is a lot easier and less of a PITA.

Lassie has 3" exhaust. There is also a guy with a Vette for sale on VetteFinders that has 3" exhaust as well.

When I asked if he had pictures of the underside he replied:

So, it can be done...most likely by a good exhaust guy.

I guess I am in the minority, I do not like the look or sound of side pipes on a C-3. They look good on a C-2 but still I do not like the sound.

I have a custom mandrel bent three inch system with flow master series 40,s and a crossover. With my solid roller cam it sounds almost like a prostock car at idle. I do not know if a three inch system would fit through the stock cross member. I installed the exhaust when I installed the ROD, so we built a cross member and cut the old one out. :chevy
