Ok...after dragging this out for a Looonngggg time....the dyno test results of the 555" motor we built for "Bruiser"..Doug *Snowman* Plette's incredible C-3 and featured in a 3 part series in Corvette Enthusiast magazine is finally on-line!

This includes the highlights...as much as I could squeeze in... of over 35 dyno pulls. We flogged that bad boy pretty well.

If you don't see an answer to any questions you may have....I can sure do my best to answer them here.

These were the flat tappet cam tests, Hyd roller tests, Hyd roller with solid lifters tests, solid roller tests, multiple intake and carb tests..as well as a Royal Purple oil test.

Next stop - CE! That's the one thing I haven't settled on yet - the cam.

You DO realize you're a bad influence on some of us don't you? I just finished selling ALL my parts for a 496 build I was planning on this winter after reading your article and having a 502 block practically fall into my lap. The 4.25 4340 crank showed up Friday!

PS - the wife thinks you belong on the 10 most wanted list at the post office. She may have even hired a hitman.

That's funny....but I think it's been said before by other wives!!

In fact....the guys in our Vette group call me "The Great Temptor"......but I prefer to think of myself as an *Enabler*. I just help people do what they wanted to do anyway!!

You won't regret the 540 after the first time you stuff your foot in it!!

There are already contracts out on Jim's life but he travels so much, no one can find him. His wife just claims he's moved when hit men come to the door (and she IS a saint!)

Also to note, Bruiser's motor is on the COVER of Corvette Enthusiast which is the first time ever that anything but a Corvette has been on the cover (we're told by a reliable source).

Hope to see folks at the SEMA show first week of November in Lost Wages. Jim will be available for autographs at that time.

Was out on the street in Bruiser today, threw a belt but had a lot of fun doing it. New belt, all back to happy.

Yep...y'all need to log in. It's just like any other magazine...or Forum site like this...you need to log in. Takes about 10 seconds and then you can read all their magazines for free....of course that's AFTER you read the ones about Bruiser!!

Magazines these days count on on-line readers as much as subscription and rack sales. They look to see what folks are reading and help determine advertising rates from the data. Same as this Forum site does.

I think it's actually pretty cool because now they know what articles people are really interested in and they will continue to publish them. This series of articles was a little out of the norm for CE, but they say response has been great and they are looking to do more like it.

Great job Jim.
Its not real easy to get in to the articles once you log in. I kept trying to click on the Corvette cover and then realized there are little arrows at the sides you have to use to turn the pages,then for some of us you have to zoom to be able to read the text.

Yeah..it is a little freaky. They tell me they are working on web design constantly. That's good feedback for them to see. There is a little button at the top that says to *save zoom* after you get it like you want to see it. That way each page comes up right.

Jim, I prefer to read the magazine as opposed to online content, so I will just have to wait until it arrives.

BTW, I have to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your first two installments. They are incredibly informative and well written. There aren't too many magazine writers around today that explain things like you do. A job extremely well done!

Hi Jim,
You're right about the street manners. I took Bruiser out for short drive saturday night. It's amazing how docile it is at low rpm and just cruising. No problem with traction. There isn't any.
We finally got the clutch worked out. You won't believe the difference changing the throwout bearing made. My hats off to McCleod.

Yeah Mike... I heard about your *short drive* on Sat night!!! Sounds like it was a blast!!

So you think we've got enough low end power and street manners....even with the pretty serious parts we put in that dude??

Doug said even with *only* 3.73's that first gear was almost useless. Maybe we need to put the BIG cam back in and kill off some of that low end power??

Just goes to show...you CAN build a killer street motor without it acting like a dumptruck or a motorhome!

I hope I can bring the body of this car to the same standard you guys have brought it to mechanicaly. It is a tall order. I feel like I am working with the best here, and am continously flattered to have this opportunity

I've got to agree with Road Race... That is an awesome job with the car guys! I got a short taste of the way this Bruiser moves at the Forum Cruise In and I've got to say, Doug is going to have some fun with this one! Can't wait to see the car when it's totally finished! See you guys in Vegas!

I read the article line by line and it was nice to see some of the points you brought out.

The max spark timing being at 33 degrees shows what I've been saying all along about modern fast burn heads.

As far as carbs goes. I have been a Demon crb. fan for years. Really only because they were the first ones to fix Holleys known defects.
But now there is 20 good companies out there that know their stuff and make great out of the box Holley modified carbs for a price. I've learned that Demon has not kept up on any kind of continues improvement program. What they really need is some R&D time into the air bleed and emulsifier circuits. I would have like to have seen how a true 850 cfm compared to the larger ones you used. Demon 850 is something over 930 CFM I think.

How long ago did you get these Crane cams? I use the Crane pro lifters in both of my SR cammed motors is that what you used?

One of the important things missing on the motor is some kind of a vacuum pump! I also would have went with a near single pattern cam and tried it 4 degrees retarded.
