Be aware of import parts!!
I bought a chrome bumper kit from one of our supporting vendors for my 68 coupe. I get these things and the metal surface looks like the moon! Ok I try and bolt them up, the holes are located wrong, I redrill them and put the bumpers up to the body and the brakets are all on the wrong angle to match the body by about .090, these were the back ones. I put my old ones back up to see if they fit as I got the car without them mounted, they fit just right! Now I try the front one, same thing, I redrill holes and it bolts up but is too wide and leaves the bumper about three inchs from the body and outside the raised part of the body that the bumper bolts too! Yea the old one is bent but still it fits better. I will just be rechormeing my old ones, but what I wanted to do here is let people know about the poor quilty of bumpers imported from China. Buy from now on for me!!! When ever posiable.
Oh and I wrote the vendor this also and they write back telling me how bad rubber bumpers fit!!! and all the cars are different.I write back and say 68 car, chrome bumpers! haven't any responce on that yet.

If you didn't like the finish in the first place, you probably could have had them replaced.
Before you monkeyed with them, why didn't you check the fit with your old ones first?
If they didn't fit, you could have sent them right back. Maybe they sent the wrong ones.
Regardless of country of origin of the part, your parts provider (assuming in the US) needs to stand by their products.
What am I missing?

I was willing to live with the finish knowing where they were from.

Well if you can see .090 with your eye with a bumper laid side by side than your the best I ever heard of!

If you read my last part I did talk with the vendor and they tell me about a rubber bumper car! Anyway I bought them and I'll live with that NP.

I would agree on the vendor, but my point is the inport parts being this bad and that all sould be carefull in buying these parts is all!

It reads here that you "wrote" and they "write" back. Doesn't look to me like you spoke to anyone. Write/Wrote vs. Spoke, pretty big difference

There are 2 kinds of replacements - besides getting what you had rechromed. Foreign and Made in USA. The foreign are cheaper $$. I've read fitting could be a problem on bumpers. With that in mind and since my front is bent and one on the rears has a drill hole in it (duh, from my CB days in the 70's), I wouldn't even consider buying other than Made in USA bumpers. That being said, I'm doubting a good first time fit without making some kind of adjustment

I bolted a re-pro bumper on my 72 and the headlamps started binding up and hitting surround opening. I had the original re-chromed re-installed it and everything was good again (chrome labor was about twice as expensive as re-pro bumper.) You build a C3 body around the bumpers you are going to use, not the other way around

Your right about that!
What I think is bad also is that I called the vendor and asked what was different on these's compared the the high dollar ones and was told that the high dollar ones were not as good on the chrome as the China ones. claims the EPA made the USA ones $$.

Also had the original bumpers off the 68 rechromed. It cost more but knowing they fit coming off meant they should fit going back on.
They did!

Hi BR,
I guess the "Corvette Shop" is right.... in a way.
The car will be the CHINESE version of a CORVETTE!!!!

Alan

Here's the difference between "made in China" parts and Original GM. The door handle in the first picture is made in China. Note how the perimeter of the moveable handle does not match the housing. The 2nd photo is the Original GM part. Note how the perimeter of the handle matches the housing. The China part works just fine on my 78', would I use it on my 71', no.

Hi Duke,
Even the boxes those door handles come in are cheaply made.
They're a great example of off-shore design and workmanship.

Alan
