Trinary Switch was the answer to Electric fans and vintage air
After trying to run AC without dedicated fans I realized it wasn't possible with initial pressure over 400psi. Although once the condenser got hot it assisted the fans staying on longer after warming up. The only answer was a Trinary switch kicking the fans on at 250 Psi and back off at 125psi with a no compressor turn on at all if under 25psi.

Just hopes it helps someone in the future with the same issue. In the past I've read posts about how a fan wasn't necessary while Ac compressor was running and I did believe it at one time before I Charged up my system and saw the pressure shoot up almost immediately over 400psi. although my fans will not run just because compressor is on, it will run when pressure climbs over 250 only with the installation of a trinary switch.

Nicely done. I have my fans run continuously while the A/C is on. I used the 12v from the idle kick solenoid to apply voltage to a relay to control the fans on.
You definitely NEED to have the cooling fans on while the A/C is running a lot of the time, maybe most of the time.
Yes, if you are running down the road as sufficient speed in cool enough ambient temps, you may not need them. That is where your pressure switch will shine over my simple on/off system.
If you have a long distance cruiser then the pressure switch would definitely be superior.
Not needing them on idea sounds like it came from someone who does not understand the physics of pressure and temperature.

Please do!! I initially was going to add another relay and wire it all up, but then the fans were going to stay on with compressor regardless of pressure. My neighbor is a vintage air installer/ dealer. He quickly strongly suggested a Trinary switch to solve problem!!

You would be surprised If I told you who suggested a fan wasn't necessary to run with compressor. but to be fair the fan was staying on longer after the AC had been running for a good while since the condenser heat was being transferred to the radiator so that was causing the fan to stay on longer. The Main problem was initial overly High pressures before condenser got hot!! anything could happen then!!

You're going to totally love that System. also make sure you install the trinary switch during the installation. My system came with a Binary switch and when i found out I needed the trinary switch I had to release the freeon from system to change switches. Good Luck!!

I've been running the trinary switch on both my aftermarket AC units. One has 2 electric fans operated by temp and/or AC pressure, the other mechanical and electric operated by temp and/or AC pressure. They've been working flawlessly for years on 100+ degree days, in traffic, etc.
I'm kind of surprised they don't just provide the trinary instead of the binary.
