Default Side Exhaust Pipes Flange leaking

I have headers and side exhaust...where the headers bolt to the exhaust pipe there is a nut that is supposed to secure them together, I can not get them tight enough to seal...does anyone have a solution. I was looking for some 4 inch exhaust clamps. I don't want to weld them, because then I can't get them off if necessary.

I would say try some silicone on the inside. Anyone else?

I used a liberal amount of anti-seize on the pipe and header. After a couple of heat cycles, it stopped spitting out the anti-sieze and did not leak.

I can tighten the nut all the way down...it just doesn't seal the pipe.

I am having the same problem with straight through exhaust; any ideas?

I would try a bead of high heat silicone around the inside pipe flange and let it sit and cure for 24 hours, then when you start it up and it gets hot will solidify, shouldn't be a problem after that. I use silicone all the time to seal up my headers when I build an engine. (Along with the gaskets of course)

Where the collector meets the straight pipe you want to wrap the collector with silver exhaust tape wrap from like advance autoparts. It creates a nice wide band and very snug fit. My pipes were loose also and no they are rock solid on there with no air gaps.

Ty,

You might check the surface to make sure there is not a flaw. My collectors on the 72 are the flat style as are the back side of my headers. (Headman) If you have one of the edges bent or flawed this might explain the problem.

You might also try to double up on the gasket, this might give you some margin for error.

Don't bother with Silicone, it won't take the heat.

I can't make that claim, I use it everytime I put header gaskets on to ensure a good seal, haven't had a problem yet.
