From what I have read, you need the 70-72 tips with the Magnaflows.
Hope this helps.

I have 70s style box tips on my magnaflows but the thinks they are aftermarket. Not sure why the stock tips were swapped for the aftermarket tips. Might be a diameter issue, my system is a 2.5 inch system. The magnaflow system has a stock appearance and a great sound.

You could also go with the N-11 "Off Road" system from Corvette Central, I like the way it sounds on my wife's 70 LT-1.

I would have to agree and say Magnaflow. Recently installed them but I had a muffler shop do it for me, and they put the 70's square tip on. I like the deep sound a big-block should make.

Default header issue/ question/ clearance????

Not to hijack the thread but has anybody installed the CC Patriot block hugger and 2.5" dual system and had any clearance issues?

Part number #323189

http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb....Z5Z5Z50000050Q

Steeroids are on order and will be instaled prior to any headers.

Any coated header recommendations?

What muffler have the best flow?
i cant understand why something marked as a performance muffler when flow is not rated. I would like a 2 1/2" muffler that flows the same as a 2 1/2" straight pipe

Fit a 3" muffler with adaptor flange at inlet to reduce to 2.5".

Ah, one last question - do the Magnaflow pipes have the correct 'flattened' section where they pass below the rear spring? I have heard there's some clearance issues when not so.

Appreciate it!

I have a 68 and put the N-11 off road chamber exhaust on the car- basically side pipes under the car - got them from Mid America- they sound like a monster at take off and are quite at crusing speed so yu can hear the radio.
Check out the video clip at corvette Central for the N-11 off road.
Good luck.

Hi!
What is the difference between the stock exhaust and the N-11 offroad chamber exhaust? And why is it called "offroad"?

Thanks, Günther

I too bought the CC front and Intermediate pipes then bought the Magnaflows. The pipes from CC do come with the flatten sections.

Pypes Race Pro's. Opposite of what you would think the Race ones have the most sound deadening and knock off a lot of noise
+1 - the Race Pros are a straight through welded stainless muffler much like the Magnaflows at roughly half the cost. They have packing in the void of the muffler around the straight through pipe.

I have a set on my car with an LS1 conversion, LT headers, and an X-pipe - the sound is perfect, in fact, when cruising the engine is barely audible. It's got a noticeable idle, and it barks a bit when you open the throttle. They've only been on the car for about a month and have already received numerous compliments on not only their sound, but their nice mix of being quiet and loud at the right times.

I've run the Aerochambers on a truck (it was an "audition" for eventual exhaust on the Vette) and was not happy with them. Not sure if it was just the engine or not but they developed a horrible rasp at just under 2000 RPM that would actually echo off nearby solid objects. I ended up putting some glass packs in front of them and it tamed them down to a tolerable level. They had a decent sound after that.

Flowmasters have a relatively unique (to flowmaster), "airy" sound -- however, every boy-racer on the planet has a set on his Mustang, pickup, or old beater. Plus they don't really flow well, and are known for droning pretty bad at cruise.

Flowmaster!

Or go for the hookers through a side pipe out.

If you got the extra cash of coarse.

But that's probably a bit louder than what you want.

I have an 81 with Heddman Headers, duals, X-pipe and I have gone through 3 sets of mufflers and still looking. I've had FloPros - way to quiet, Corvette Turbo's - also to quiet and now if have SS Magnaflows. They are way to muffled - excuse the pun. I read that someone said they sound like baby farts. One muffler shop said that the X-pipe quites things down so I could consider straight Pipes.

I am going to put the Magnaflows and the FloPros on eBay and try Flowmasters. A member of our club has the Race version model 10's and they are nice and loud but quite at cruse. Anyone have experience with Flowmasters or the new Cherry Bomb vortex.

Here is my soundfile with Flowmasters.
Engine is a 427cui, nice cam, Headman Headers, 3" tubes, X-Pipe and Flowmasters.
I like the sound verry much, but they are verry loud inside. Listen to the radio - no way!

I would love to hear your exhaust with the magnaflows since I have a magnaflow cat back on a 1994 Mustang GT (love the sound) and on a 2001 pontiac grand prix 3.1 L V6 (not so great). I assume that your exhaust is a true dual 2.5 in without the magnaflow X pipe system that they now sell for the 68-74 vettes. I run McJacks shorty headers into SS 2.5 inch true duals, and pacesetter Monza turbo mufflers with 3 inch dual tips from each muffler and love that sound which is less traditional muscle car and more european smooth, not the "motor boat" type of sound. Maganflows seem to smooth out that sound on the Mustang so I am interested in how yours sounds with the magnaflows. Thanx.
