Default Mystery Button On 76 Vette

I have this, and have no idea what it does. When I push it and it turns on, nothing happens that I can notice. All it says is on and has a red light that comes on underneath it. I THINK it is for a rear defog switch, but not for sure.
Can someone solve this for me?

63nova,
that is the switch for your rear window defrost.
I have one on my '75 convertible same switch.

OK.... that's a new one on me - I thought it was coupe only.
Is it the soft top or removable hard top that has the defrost built in?

No heat grid---its the old fan or blower type defroster.
