Default Grey, blue, green wires on guages 68 vert

68 convertible

I have two lights in the console whcih will glow when the light switch is turned on. My question is the grey wires which supply the tach and speedometer and the blue and green wires as well; do they have to be plugged in to determine if they are working. It looks as if they are grounded by the socket they fit into.

GM standard is gray wires to the instrument lights. IIRC the blue and green are turn indicators. And they do need to be grounded to work.

Ok; Got two lights which are used for the console fan switch area which work. They greys have no juice to them. which wire off of the light switch is responsible for supplying them.
thanks

Ok
They gray plugs supplying the bulbs for the speedometer have juice. I put a bulb (good one) in and placed the plug into the back of the speed ometer . No light..... The rear lights, headlights high and low beam work. The rear blinkers work the front ones do not.
My issue to handle first is the speedometer and tach lights
any ideas
thanks

The Tan/Pink a 2 wire connector to a bulb? Brake warning light- dark Blue right turn indicator- light blue is left turn- light green- hi beam indicator.

At least that's what my 69 wiring diagram shows. The colors are also stamped into the back of the tach/speedo housings

the speedo and tach housings are the ground. there is a single black wire that connects at the rear lower part of the housing on a 1/4" wide tab. That is the ground for ALL the lights in the cluster except for the brake warning. It has it's own circuit (2 wires to it.)

You need the '68 AIM (assembly instruction manual). The AIM shows the system grounds and the color coding for the instrument and tell-tale wiring.

The tach and speedo have their own separate grounds.
