Default wanting to add power brake booster to 70 vette

new member and needing some help with how to convert a manual brake car to power brake. I have everything and went to install booster and I am not sure what to do. Do I drill 4 holes and mount or am I missing a bracket? I removed the rod from the brake pedal and am assuming the rod coming from the booster will hook back up to the pedal.

Keep in mind; I’m doing this from memory so if anyone wants to add to this feel free!

You will need both the power brake booster and a new master cylinder. Power brake and standard brake master cylinders are different.

The cars with standard brakes have two studs on the firewall; you will need to knock these out of the firewall (they will fall inside the car).

Then using the two upper holes from the studs as a guide, mark the lower holes and drill them for the lower booster holes.

Once you do this, you’ll need to enlarge the hole in the firewall for the rod from the power brake booster. Yes it bolts to a different position on the pedal but doing this is real easy. If you look under your dash you’ll see a round hole on a non power brake car. On a power brake car it was egg looking. The inside reinforcement should for both power and standard had this egg looking hole made in to it and if you look under the dash you’ll see what portion of the fiberglass you’ll need to remove.

Once you do this, you will need to fabricate a brake lamp switch bracket and you’re on your way. The standard brake and power brake lamp switch bracket were different, the power brake one is not available new (that I’m aware of) and so fabrication is the only way to obtain one.

Hope this helps, I used to have a detailed sheet somewhere on this when we did a conversion many. .. Many years ago. If I can find this I’ll post it for you.

You will also need a new vacuum fitting and hose for the intake manifold. . . . Forgot that one.

Thanks for the help. Are you a corvette dealer or parts supplier?

Also remember that a power brake booster is "hell" to install. Involving removal of the driver seat.

It is really not that bad bad of a job. I just switched my 74 to hydroboost and you do not need to remove the drivers seat. Using swival socket and extention you can do it without removing the dash.

As far as the brake light switch braket. Check around on the sight. There has been alot of people on here that switched over to a manual trans. I am sure one of them would be happy to sell you the braket you need.

Hamad, Good one!

See, I told you it was a very long time ago since I did this.

Did I say you could find the bracket at the link above

Again I am new to the site and you guys are great help. I have the dash out and all of interior is out as well so it's easily accessible. This car is my second vehicle frame off the first was a 68 C-10 Truck. I was proud of it made cover on Classic Truck Mag. last April and was featured in Sport Truck April 09. This vette is a heck of alot harder than the truck!!! Wish I had signed up sooner. I would send you guys some pictures but I don't know how to do that yet.

Hamad, How difficult did you find replacing the manual brakes to Hydroboost. I looked through about a hundred posts today on this and I noticed you went through the same process. Do you still have the info packet DB sent? I currenlty have my pedals out and the MC disconnected from the firewall. Trying to decide if now would be the time to go ahead and just do this upgrade. Thanks.

The manual master cylinder has a 1" piston and the power master cylinder has a 1 1/8" piston. I have a new chrome booster I was going to install but switched to Hydroboost instead. PM me if you're interested in the vacuum booster. If you are not set on vacuum, I recommend Hydroboost.

I'm in the process of doing the same conversion on my 69. Do I need to buy some type of bracket for the rear of the booster? Also, I see in some other posts that you drill new top holes and use the bottoms.......? I purchased the OEM style booster and MC so I can get the original look.
