Default Tach Signal On a Ls7 Swap?

Just like the title implies, how do we get that old mechanical tach to work on the new ls7 setup?

You cant..................
However, you can swap a later year electronic tach and use the mechanical tach faceplate and housing. You'll also have to reprogram the computer to output an 8 cylinder signal rather than 4.
Or, I found an Isspro tach I had laying around that has the same sweep and even faceplate screw pattern as my 68 tach. It took a little cutting of the the plastic to mount it, but it fits perfectly and uses the LS computer 4 cylinder signal.

Well can that original old gauge look be retained by using an electrical unit?

I want to have the interior setup to look stock.

Several of the instrument restorers can convert your original to electronic. Places like Corvette Clocks by Roger and probably Corvette Instrument Service.

I had mine converted a few years ago to electric. Much smoother operation and no cable to deal with. To work with the LS7 you will have to convert. As said most gauge restorers can do this for you.

Like I said, I used the Isspro electronic tach in the 68 housing with the 68 faceplate needle and face. It looks exactly like a 68 from the inside. I suspect this is what the retrofitters do.
Here's the tach I used. I can try to find pics.

I had my '64 gauge converted by Roger at www.corvetteinstruments.com

like you, i wanted to retain my stock face so it wouldn't look different from my view.. he used the guts from a late 70's electronic tach and retained my original gauge face..

several members have done it themselves, but I preferred to hire it out.. I needed work done to a couple other gauges at the same time..
