Door Lock Assembly Cleaning??
Just wondering what would be a good solvent to use on the door lock assemblies for cleaning-out all the old grease.
Have them out of the doors.
Any suggestions as to what to lube the locks with when done?
Going to tackle this on Sunday (10/6).
Thanks.

Hi L,
I used Simple Green full strength and various small brushes. It seemed to work well. I put the SG in a small container and immersed the mechanism.
I think white lithium grease is a good choice for the latch/lock mechanism. You can get it in a spray can with a long snout on the nozzle that's like a fine drinking straw sop you can direct the grease where you want it.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

If you don't mind the smell and the [low] risk, you could put some gasoline in a pan and submerge the locks for a couple of hours. Put a lid over it to keep the fumes down. And DON'T stick it next to the (gas) water heater...
Blow them off and stick some white lithium grease (tube, not spray) on the wear areas. It should be 'good-to-go' for another 40 years.
