Trailing arm bearing set-up
My winter project has been to rebuild the rear suspension on a nice stock 80 that I picked up real cheap. I've disassembled, cleaned and painted the trailing arms and checked out all the vital parts and ready to reassemble. I picked up a full kit from VBP which has all the parts and a shim kit. I have read several tech articles and threads about what the play should be in the bearings and feel pretty confident about that . What I don't feel good about is how to pull the assembly back apart if I need to change the shim to get the proper tolerence. Any tricks or tips on how to do this without damaging anything in the process?

There is a tool to use that has a slip fit for the spacer, shims and bearings. (bearing set up tool)
It is used in place of the spindle. When you have the proper fit, you put the final assembly on your spindle, and check the final fit!!!
You can buy one, rent one or borrow one!!!

Driving or pressing out the spindle will most likely damage the bearings so figure on replacing them.

you can rent the tools from Duntov if needed then ship them back.
