Default follow my C3 LSX - REMIX -

Well...

as some of you know. I blew up my 346...it was running 12.0@114

but it went bye bye...

OKAY...

Here is the CARNAGE !!!

The factory connecting rod let go at the shop when we put on a new carb spring KIT. Sounds Crazy but thats what happened. Along with me revving the motor to hard.

Anyways enjoy the photos.

Hey Sean....I was sorry to hear about the old motor, but the new unit should more than make up for the trouble you been through. Give me a heads-up on your trial run, I'd like to be there.

Will your IRS take the additional torque? It might be wise to put half shaft loops on at the least, if you havn't already done so. I broke one on my 69 and don't want to go there again. The free turning end of a half shaft is an evil thing!

Good luck and have fun!

Hey Mike...

YUP HALF SHAFT LOOPS have been in the car for about 2 years. From Dragvette.com

Also...if you still wanna build a LSX carbed engine I have Lots of good extra parts. I can send you a list if you like. All you would need a decent short block.

Thanks Sean, but my plate currently overflows and the heads I told you I had bought never came. Yeah...I got ripped by a member and trying to get my money back. You have some good parts there. Are those AFR heads being sold or going on the new motor?

Mike sorry about the HEADS was it a corvette forum member??

My new parts (AFR HEADS included) were damaged in the engine failure. My old intake, old 6.0 heads, 224 camshaft, and exhaust manifolds are perfect.

I just got my AFR heads BACK from repair...OUCH

sorry to hear about the motor. Similar thing happened to me but I had a lifter turn sideways on me. Lots and lots of metal shavings all over the motor. So I got a 416 LS3 forged & stroked shortblock. Then I topped it with some hand ported L92 heads and had a custom cam made for it. Lots of other custom parts too. I am curious to hear how much power your motor makes. Mine is "supposed" to be in the 630hp-650hp range at the flywheel.

Good luck and keep posting pics!

Thanks for the positive words.

I am thinking about 460-500 rwhp (around 550-600 crank)

Believe it or not thats a common problem with that LS-1 engine. My 2001 firebird wasnt over reved and got into it one day started driving it and bang rod thru the side of the block. Over on LS-1.com you see A lot of them shelling out like that.

Well.... my forged bottom end should solve that problem....

Eagle forged crank and rods... diamond forged pistons and ARP bolts.

Fingers Crossed ....

Hi,

Do you have a thread/link showing what you had to do to the vette to get the LS1 to fit in your C3?

I see the 'sticky' link at the top of the forum but the amount of info is overwhelming to me.

Sure would like to see an 'HOW TO: LS1 in a C3' white paper in the tech section. Especially, a low-cost solution. My driveline is good for 400hp as it is 'new/rebuilt' from the Bow-Tie 700R4, shortened driveshaft, new blueprinted diff with 3.54 spicer gears, Van Steel halfshafts and Van Steel rear trailing arm/bearing assemblies.

any track times yet? What cam are you running?

With those heads you breathe better on the top for sure... guessing you have a M6 tranny?

I started a paper over on DC, but there is a ton of info and not enough time. Plus there are quite a few different ways to do the swap. I have done 2 for myself and 1 for another and all three were different. And there is no cheap option. You need to figure out how much you are willing to spend and then start lining up parts from there. The thread on DC gives you a good idea of a parts list. It is in the C3 sticky section

No, personally I am not a fan of TSP, but I won't go there. I got mine from Xtreme Horsepower Solutions in TX. Amazing group of guys and they are all SAM certified machinists.

All is great with the motor. The tune needs some more work, but that will happen on the dyno this summer after the car is done being painted. And I am running a T56 6 speed. The cam is a custom grind from flowtech.

Here are a few videos of the motor running. Don't mind the body, I literally taped up the old front clip so I could drive the car.
