There is not a tag but numbers stamped into the bottom of the case. Find the numbers and post them and we can help you out. The gears may have also been changed over the years so this would render the numbers on the case useless.
The best way is to mark the tire. Rotate it exactly one turn and count the number of revolutions the pinion turns. If it turns3 1/4 times you have a 3.36, 3 times a 3.08 and 3.5 turns a 3.55 and so on.

I did not know that about the tag.

Once we can determine the rear gear ratio, we need to figure out when the torque starts to come on and then we can recommend a transmission to go with.

You are not alone!! I did it with help of my phone cam. Just mark the tire and axle, put the cam under the axle marker and turn your wheel 10 times. Here is mine:

Hey Jeff,

I am over in Memphis and am interested in a 5-speed conversion for my 74 big block coupe. It has a 200-4R and 3.55 rear in it now.

Do you perform the conversions there at your facility? If not, can you recommend a shop in TN or nearby that does?

glad your happy with your conversion..... i am going the other way..... had a 4 speed car bought a 5 speed with al the fixin's never put it in but now am going to run a TH400.

Right off the bat a manual tranny gives you at least 35 more hp and a wide range of rpm choices.
