Default Side Pipes on a 74

I just placed my order for some Hooker Sidepipes from Jet Hot and was wondering if I need to get a new AC or Alternator bracket. They mention something about the alternator bracket but I read conflicting info here on the site. Some people say they needed it, some didn't.

If your alternator bracket bolts to the front of the head, the you are good to go.

Is your alternator hung off the exhaust manifold?I just looked at my L-48 w/o AC,it wouldn't need any extra brackets. That note from Hooker is a generic SBC one, most applications other than Corvette need the bracket for the PS pump.

My '76 L-48 looks just like randommj's setup and it required the new bracket. This is the one I bought from Summit http://store.summitracing.com/partde...t=HOK-10926HKR

my '73 required the new bracket for headers and i had to use longer header bolts (like 1/4" extra) for those two holes. for some reason that escapes me right now i had to use allen head bolts? FYI.

When I installed my Hooker Super Comp full length headers on my '74, I received instructions for modifying the factory A/C mounting bracket. This is what I did and it worked fine. (See attached link, page 2)

If you buy the bracket kit, it comes with the longer bolts. I switched to allen head bolts too. I used them so I could get a good bite to torque down the headers. Never could get a good grip with an open ended wrench on the original bolts and sure as heck couldn't get them torqued . . . they leaked. Allens fixed the problem, but man the passenger's side was a real RITA. Was it worth it???
