Default Rear end squats when put into gear

Hello,

Have an 81 automatic that the rear end squats down pretty bad when you put it in drive. Would the rear spring being worn out and weak cause this or is there another issue. The spring is the stock one as far as I know and it looks tired.

Any thoughts appreciated.

if your idle is around 700 then you should get about .5 to 1 inch of squat going from park to drive at the rear spoiler. the more idle the more squat.

What spring do you have? The single fiberglass or the 7 to 9 leaf spring? The fiberglass spring rides soft from GM and if you idle at high speed 700rpm or more you will get an inch. This is normal from what I have experienced.
