Default 3 or 4 series carrier diff?

Hello

Just bought a extra posi-tration to my -72 vette.

The posi now got a 3,55 gear, but on the case there is some ID numbers. And it says. 2 AP L10 4 67. It is a 1967 axle whith 4,11 gears original.

But how do I know what carrier I have now? Original I think it was a 4 series because the 4,11 gear, but now it has 3.55 gear, and I want to know what carrier I have now.

What should I measure to find out what carrier I have now? How should the measure numbers look like?

Thanks

You should have a 3 series carrier. The 3.55 gears would not fit on a 4 series carrier. It can go the other way. 4.11s on a 3 series. Either a spacer or a set of gears with a thick ring gear. If it is truely a 3.55 you have a 3 series carrier.

the flange where the ring gear bolts to is different from 3 to 4 series carriers. the 3 series has a thin flange and the 4 series has a thick flange

The 3 series flange is .328 between the flange and RG bolt pad.

If you have a 67 posi case, check it real good. Those are square window posi's and prone to cracking more then the later tear drop windows. Also if a stock 67 it will have the weaker 10-18 spiders the later(71-79) have the better 10-17 spiders.

If you look up my threads you'll find all you want to know about vette posi's.

Good luck

I had lost this picture. I took this a few years ago and have been trying to find this. Thanks for posting this. I'll have to put this one back in my photos.

I sold the 4 series carrier a while ago but still have a 3 series in the basement if you need any measurements from it.
