Default Coolant... Zerex vs Prestone green

I dont mean to start another yellow or orange thread

But seriously.. between Zerex green and Prestone green, which one is better for a 69 vette with original copper radiator?

Either one will be fine, I personally like Prestone and run it in all my vehicles. Don't buy the 50/50 premix it's a rip off. It's the same price as the non-dilluted stuff. I buy one gallon and split it, add water to make it 50/50 and wind up with 2 gallons of pre-mixed for the same price that they sell one for.

Funny you should mention the prices. I was just looking at some Prestone in Wallyworld about a hour ago. The 100% was $9.97 a gallon and the 50/50 was $8.97. The 50/50 has a warning on the label that says "do not add water" daaahhhh!!!!!

And a C3 vette radiator needs 5 gallons.. isn't it?
Yeah.. that's a lot of money for a coolant change.

They must market that 50/50 stuff to people that can't figure out how to add water....

yeah normally convenient is more expensive up front.

but you can buy less of the pure stuff and a few gallons of distilled water and you are good to go.

I am by no means an expert but from what I have read and understand a choice in coolants is going to be like you choice in oils. Different strokes for different strokes kinda deal. Most brands are going to work just fine in a fully and normally functioning cooling system. The problems occur when there is lack of regular maintainence and also with choice of water. I myself use prestone yellow in my 1972 vette, 1991 chevy truck, 2000 vette, and my wife's 2002 Lexus. But I change them all every year or two and I only use RO-DI water to mix the coolant with. Reverse Osmosis Deionized water is completely pure and has a TDI ( total disolved solids) rating of like .002. So nothing is in it except H2O. No calcium buildup no nothing to worry about. So pick your coolant, go to a local aquarium store and purchase some RO-DI or even just DI water would work.... drain and flush your old garbage out, fill with the new and properly change it every year or two.

Wouldn't distilled water be suitable?
