Default Amperage Draw of Alterenator

Does anyone Know how many amps (or if there should be any at all) the no.2 terminal on the alternator should read with the car off. I disconnected the neg. terminal and measured between it and the post of the battery and read 10 ma.

Are you concerned about a charging issue or a parasitic draw issue. A 10mA draw is pratically nothing concerning parasitic draws.

I have a paracitic draw issue I was working through. The main draw (250 ma.) is in the courtsy circuit but I haven't taken the time to isolate the component. I think it is the clock though. Thinking of installing a Quartz motion conversion and see if that will take care of it.

If you have an original clock the current draw is only momentary as the clock spring is rewound. Hard to measure.

My clock dosent work. so I figured that might be it. Not sure how the clock works but I've searched other threads and found a simier problem. I don/t have the heart to tear into the dash right now to t/shoot it. I didn't know if the 10mA draw from the alternator was enough to make my battery go dead or not. Thanks for the replys. This forum is GREAT!!!

The 10ma on the alternator is fine and should take months to drain a battery. The 250 on the CTSY circuit is a bit high but not completely out of bounds either. Were you haveing dead battery problems?

Yes I am having dead battery problems. Installed a battery disconnect switch but I get quite a thrill when I find the actual problems and fix them. The draw may be intermittent and it was 250mA when I measured it, and maybe somwhat more at other times. I don,t want to ingnore an electrical problem too long and have a fire or sink more money into the vette and take funds from the engine rebuild account.
