1972 LT1 ?
I saw the following aledged 72 LT1 on the Corvette Trader site: http://www.corvettetrader.com/ads/19...etexas1918.htm . It appears to have a small-block style hood. As I recall, the 72 LT1 I owned years ago had a big-block style hood to clear the high-rise intake system. I asked the seller and he said his was a correct LT1 hood. What do you experts say?

Re: 1972 LT1 ? (SuperFast80)
All LT1 cars had the big block hood to give extra cleance for the higher intake
I just read the ad what a load of crap. The LT1 engine was rated at 255 hp that year. (net HP). Only year offered in blue. Yea right. He will find some sucker for it. Check the vin number on the car. The 5th digit has to be a L to be a LT1 car.
Just noticed the auto shifter. LT1 cars are 4 speeds.
This must be one of those "special LT1 cars"

Re: 1972 LT1 ? (SuperFast80)
The whole car is bogus, the hood along with the automatic transmission and later seats make it a put together car, definately not an "all"original '72 LT-1.
besides, blue was offered in '70, '71 & '72. Nice lookin' tho. Seems someone got taken along the line. :nono: :nonod: Aw, Peace anyway, Moosie

Wrong hood, wrong horsepower (should be 270hp, I believe), never made an LT-1 automatic, appears to be 5600rpm tach (LT-1's w/o air in 72 had 6400 rpm redline.

Tom,
Per the 70-72 NCRS Judging Manual: "Big block and LT1 equipped cars have hoods with a "power bulge" for added air cleaner clearance."
And I would like to know where this guy got his info regarding blue LT1s!! A good friend of mine owned a '70 model LT1 that was Bridgehampton Blue!!
He also says that the car is "totally original", but says that it is a 350/350 hp (original was 255 net hp) with Flowmaster exhaust!!
I might e-mail this guy and have a little fun!!

It's funny, just today I was driving to work thinking how rare the LT1 is and how difficult they are to find. Guess that theory still holds. ;)

I recently saw this and laughed myself silly. An LT-1 with an L-48 hood, automatic tranny, and a common blue paint color. Yeah! And I'll sell you some Enron stock for the low low bargain price of $100/share.

This ad is a "classic". He includes most of the ripoff corvette cliches
1. It has 102,000 miles, but only 15,000 on rebuilt engine.
He forgot to call them "original" miles....
2. This car is totally original (door panels and all).
right! "totally original exhaust, engine..... TOTALLY!!!"
3. Only year that the LT1 was offered in blue
Very nice! throw in a completely ridiculous falsehood... go for "THE BIG LIE"
4. (60 total LT1 made in 1972).
Make sure it is a lie that any idiot can prove a lie with a blackbook or any one of about 100 websites that have the same production info...
5. ONE OF A KIND.
That's a requirement for this kind of ad.... "1 of whatever..."
6. Upgraded stereo system (Still have all original stereo equipment).
That's a big PLUS!! :)
so, only thing he forgot is: "ALL NUMBERS MATCH"
gosh, I guess we should give him credit! He doesnt claim its a matching numbers car!!
That leaves only 2 omissions: a. The check is in the mail, and b. I won't ....... oh, never mind! :)
This ad really tics me off because he is asking $24k which is LT1 money. If he had made all those silly claims and asked $10k I would have laughed it off, but that ad plus asking $24k is criminal. What a dish-head! MJ

Re: 1972 LT1 ? (kellsdad)
Being as I have an LT-1 i had to take a look. What a joke. The guy is totally ignorant of Corvettes or trying to pull something. Big Block Hood, no auto for starters. 350/350 in 72? NOT - LT-1 was 255 in 72. You'd have to go back to 70 to find 350/350 and it wasn't an LT-1 (LT-1 was 370 that year). Flow Master exhaust - all original? HUH? Two colors of Blue in 72 - Bryar Blue Metallic which they made 1617 of, and Targa Blue Metallic which they made 3198 of. Oh, and I got the paint info from the NCRS Specifications Guide. This guy should have thought of that.
I know there is one born every minute but I do beleive that anyone plunking down 24k for a collector car is a collector and will know about this. Man, I'd hate to be him when someone knowledgeable struts up to look at it. :U

Re: 1972 LT1 ? (kellsdad)
This thread is exactly why the forum is so VALUABLE to people that have limited C3 experience and are looking to make their first buy. When I was looking for my first C3 11 years ago, I had almost NO resources to rely on but I was hell bent on getting one. Fortunately I was a fairly experienced car guy (grew up w/muscle cars, racing, etc.) so I made out fine but there are many others out there without the experience or knowledge to rely on.
Now on the flip side, playing devils advocate, this seller may, I stress MAY, be one of those uninformed people that truly thinks what he has is an LT1 car. Its highly unlikely but possible.
If the guy is a lying ***** (which he appears to be), so what...he's only one of the hordes that are out there playing the game that need to be exposed by the informed. Any hackers out there? Want a new project of pasting a warning label on that seller's page? :D Just kidding, if the FBI is watching...
Keep spreading the knowledge guys!

Has anyone that intentionally called this seller heard back from him? I would love to hear the rest of his "story". Need a good laugh.
