Default 80 vett speedo swap

I am about to buy an 80 vett L82 with a new engine, new 4 speed auto tranny, new suspension, new paint, and a new drive train/rear end. I know the 80 and 81 vetts have a speedo that goes to 85, can you easily rig up the older speedo that goes higher?

EDIT: My gas gauge reads fuel level, but has a lot of bounce when car is moving, is it the floater, or the gauge?

You can buy either a 140 or 165 speedo or send yours out to be refaced and recalabrated. Ecklers does the conversion as Im sure other do http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...9&dept_id=1130 Check out the search, I think there is a link to the companies that does that swap.

You need to find a 1978-79 speedo. They are direct fit and have a 140 mph top speed.

Otherwise 85 mph is a bit slow in the quarter mile.
