Default 12558062 Vortec heads

Will 12558062 heads bolt up to my 1976 l48 350? My research so far says they will. I am following up here as the next step. Any clearance issues with the intake and carb? Stick with the qjet or go with edelbrock? Thanks.

Yes, they should bolt up. You’ll need a Vortec specific intake. This may cause hood clearance issues, requiring you to switch to a low rise air cleaner.

Assuming your Q-Jet hasn’t been hacked by someone along the way, I would stick with the QuadraJet. The 1976 QuadraJet has over a decade of engineering refinement added to it vs the Edelbrock.

Like Shark Racer said, yes, they will bolt right up, but you will need a Vortec specific intake.

I wanted to run an RPM Air Gap intake on my 74, but ended up buying an Edelbrock Performer EPM intake for my crate 357. I have yet to install it, but hoping for the best.
The EPM shows pretty decent numbers for a “low rise” intake, and are nearly an inch shorter than the Air Gap (if memory serves me right).

There are mixed feelings between QJet, Edelbrock and Holley. Personally, I like Holley carbs as they’re simpler to tune, but I hear that once you get a QJet dialed in, it’s there and runs GREAT!

Best of luck!!

Greg

You will also need self aligning rocker arms with the Vortec heads. They don't have push rod guide plates.

Thanks to the guys who responded with good info. I was able to purchase these 062 Vortec heads for $200. They are able to handle .500 lift and have Z28 springs. Magnafluxed and cleaned.

You might want to consider changing to screw in studs. Relatively cheap and easy.

Thanks for the info. What are the advantages of doing that?

[QUOTE=Fatpig;1605359836]Thanks for the info. I found a really good video on youtube that explained to me why this is a god idea. I am definitely going to do this. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ejih8y7wli4#menu
