Default C3 rear spring quality question

I have removed the rear spring of my '78 L-82 and want to replace it.
One dealer gave me a price of $240 for threir spring, he said it was higher than most because it was U.S. made, others sell their's for around $130 but are foreign made and poor quality, acording to him.
Has anyone bought a rear spring from Corvette Central and had any quality issues.
Also, my spring is 2 1/4", 7 leaf, I beleive is the orginal. I've seen some conflicting info about 77-78 having 2 1/4 or 2 1/2" springs. Is my 2 1/4, 7 leaf correct.

Thanks

I took mine out & replaced with a fiberglass spring.
The original is now used to hold down the tarp on the tractor. You want it?

Lots of places to get them from, VB&P, Van Steel, etc. just shop around. They also have rebuild kits for your original. Make sure you get new bolts and a mounting plate, it will make things easier. Also, if you do go to a glass spring, you will have to have some high quality shocks to go with it. Get some catalogs from them and shop it or visit the websites and decide which way you wanna go and will fit the budget.

If it isn't a "correct" show car, I'd consider the fiberglas rear spring from VB&P. Better ride, much lighter.

I'm using Vette Brakes on mine..with no issues. They even had their local builder customize it for my application.

I got mine at Bair's, it was very similar to the original. I took it apart after I got it and put the correct liners in, and painted the leafs.

63-77 has a 2-1/2" spring, the 78-79 has the 2-1/4 spring.

I agree. Eaton in Detroit is top quality for OEM replacement. They have original dwgs & specs. They may be a bit more expensive than some but you can depend on their quality. The big difference in leaf springs is that the top quality ones are low alloy (CrMo) whereas the cheaper ones are just carbon steel. If you're looking at a lower price spring, ask about the chemistry. The quality difference is that the low alloy springs are stronger and will retain their shape and spring properties longer.
