Default Corvette jack

I just had side pipes put on my '79 Vette. I now need to jack the car up (starter problem) and the jack will no longer work. The side pipes hang down too low so the siccors-style jack can not be turned.

What type of jack can I get so that I can get under the car?

Sears has a 3 ton jack that works on my 81 with side pipes. They also have a low profile nascar type jack now that should work. Menards also sells a low profile jack.

i have a 3 ton floor jack and grab it dead center
on the cross member just under the engine
stick some jack stands under the frame
and you are good to go.

Go get a couple 2x12's and make some ramps. Once its up, jack it up.

I bought the 3-ton floor jack from Sears and used the front cross member to jack it up then added two jack stands for safty and that worked great. Thanks!

Now, another question. My side pipes prevent me from using the siccors style jack that came with the car. What can I use if I have a flat along the road somewhere? Is there another kind of jack that I can carry with me that will do the job?

You might need two sizzors jacks. One for under the front/rear cross member and the other for under the frame.
