Default I have Mopar crate engine envy!

Have you guys seen the crate engines available through DaimlerChrysler? Check out http://www.mopar.com

How about a 426 Hemi, or a 610HP 528ci Hemi with a 3 year warranty? A 488HP fuel injected Viper V10? A 575HP 500ci wedge? That ZZ502 I've been eyeing up looks kinda ordinary now... I think a 528 Hemi Cuda would look great next to my Vette!

I always had a dream of fitting a 426 Hemi into a vet. No idea if it would even come close to fitting. My latest dream has been to fit the Viper V10 into anythiing that can take it..

I've beaten enough Hemis to be quite satisfied with a big block Chevy, thank you :jester

Ah, but apparently you haven't seen the SDPC (Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center) custom crate engine advertisement. http://www.SDPC2000.com
Their 602/502 is a "Fully hand assembled, blue printed and balanced 502 engine using the best high performance components available. Equipped with a Demon 850 carburator and MSD HEI distributor, each engine is dyno-tested and ready to run. 10.2:1 compression, 602HP @ 5400 rpm, 602 Ft/LBS @ 4200 RPM

The cost? $9975

Need more power?
How about a 945 HP with a 1050 CFM Dominator carburator? (a mere
$14, 575.00)

No, Daimler-Chrysler has nothing on good ol Mr. Goodwrench!

No contest. Top Fuel has always been dominated by Hemis and always will be. The BBC is no match for the durability and power output capacity of the hemi. The only way they kept hemis from continuing to dominate NASCAR was by outlawing them. Brand loyalty is for suckers; that's why guys kept buying Chevy diesels! You can be loyal to your brand if you choose, but I'll guarantee your brand will never be loyal to you! I believe in driving the best, regardless of brand. That's why I drive a Dodge one ton, a Toyota half ton, a Vette, and my boat was blown hemi powered. Oh yeah, and my street bike is a Harley and my hiway bike a Gold Wing! :D

Guys, you don't have to defend the BBC here, I HAVE ONE AND LOVE IT! That doesn't mean that we shouldn't appreciate the beautiful hardware coming from Mopar these days. What, exactly, can you get DIRECTLY FROM GM WITH A 3/36 WARRANTY that compares? The closest thing is the RamJet 502, but it doesn't fit a Vette, and it's down 100 horsepower compared to the hemis. I've seen the Scoggins/Dickey and Bill Mitchell engines, but that's aftermarket stuff. Chevy certainly doesn't have a monopoly on high performance. I think Mopar builds a very cool engine; feel free to disagree with me ;)

And how about that Viper V10...

-Joe

xrated, I'd love to see that Hemi powered Vette, just for the WOW factor! (although it might tick off a few of the bowtie loyalists here...)

And I've beaten enough small block Chevy's in the past (in the 1970's)with my 340 small block Mopar too. No brand loyality here!

For a mere 17,200.00 the nice people at Summit will seel you a 632 cubic inch Merlin II big block that pumps out 925 HP and 750 ft pounds of torque on gas.
I've never had "enough" horsepower, but these guys are trying HARD.

A Hemi sure would be nice for my '70 RoadRunner resto. A little pricey though...I think I'll live with the 383 :)

Hey, count me in as a Bowtie/Mopar hybrid. :)

The only brand loyalty that I claim is American. :flag

One engine that was also legislated out of favor by NASCAR was the very cool "shotgun" Ford BOSS 429 engine. Or how 'bout the SOHC 427? I just love all those old womper stomper engines! :yesnod:

Take it from a guy that has built motors from all “3,” MOPAR dominates when it comes to HP/$. No one can build HP in a Chevy or Ford motor cheaper then MOPAR (assuming new parts are used… not a piece here and there from good ol Uncle Bob).

Furthermore, you can’t find a stronger bottom end or rods. This is because MOPAR pistons are the heaviest stock pistons in the industry. Unless you are building 800+ HP you don’t need aftermarket rods or crank.

Example:
.060” over 440 (69 casting date)
stock oiling passages
stock weight pistons (11.5:1 dome)
ARP rod bolts
stock forged crank
fully ported 452 MOPAR heads (cast iron)
MOPAR M1 open-plenum intake (aluminum)
Custom grind Hughes Engineering cam (.570”/.570” 245@.050 solid)
Harland Sharp rockers and shafts
Holley DP flowing aprox. 860cfm.
MSD 6AL
CPPA headers (2” primary / 3.5” collector)
3” Dynomax Ultraflows / custom built X-pipe (one of the first, thank you!)
This combo powered a 3770 lbs. car with driver to a 10.99/124 quarter mile… and I was known to spin it at 6400 – 6500 rpm from time to time.

Now, would you like to talk rear ends?

Dave:
Personally I think when it comes to rear ends, Ford is head and shoulders above the rest with their 9"....just my opinion.

As far as modified engines go, I believe the sky is the limit. My buddy has a '80 454 Camaro (3500lbs + 225lb Driver):

+.030" Over 454 (72 Casting Date)
Stock Oiling Passages
Hypereutectic Pistons (10:1 CR)
ARP Rod Bolts
Stock Forged Cast Crank
Stock Forged Cast Rods
Fully Ported '72 Corvette Heads (2.25/1.88 Valves)
Holley Strip Dominator Intake
Comp Cams 282S Solid Lifter Cam (.561"/.561", 236@.050)
Comp Cams Magnum Roller Tip Rockers
Holley HP 830CFM Carburetor
MSD 6AL Ignition
Headers (2" Primaries, 3.5" Collectors)
3.5" Exhaust

Runs 11.60s in the 1/4 mile. He revs this engine to 6000RPMs pretty often (his parents are part owners in Keystone 1/4 track and he races twice a week...every week). He has spun it up to 6500RPMs before, but sees no use in it because he is revving out of his engine's power range. I like all makes and models, I just wanted to point out that Mopars aren't the only fast cars out there. I also wanted to point out that Chevy's are nothing to cough at and are a very durable engine. Please don't take this as flame or anything. :blueangel:
