Shark Bar??
Ive been looking at these for a while now.. pretty$$$!! But I eventually want to install a 5 point. I am wondering if anyone has fabricated something like it themselves? I dont think this would be too hard.
Thanks!

I don't recall how MyBad did his bar or what it looked like but I was going to go this route and use a bender to make my own bar very similar to the shark bar. But a proper bender costs too much money. The cost of the bender and DOM tubing would cost more than the sharkbar.
Might be better to find a local shop to bend you one up. I got quotes for $300 from a local shop but when I went to check them out those guys were scary and I wouldn't let them near my car.

I didn't do the hoops though. The black nonhoop version fits my car better.
Clive, got any pics?
Here's a few of mine. Have to fit the carpet better around the bar though.

The bar is still wrapped in bubble wrap and is just mocked up. I have my body on the dolly going to paint in a couple of weeks. I also got the 5 pt harnesses halon chrome extinguisher and the Leather A4 seats. I will take some pics this weekend but nothing is really mounted.
You and I are always doing things alike.

I did the same. Got it during the 10% off sale and didn't need the seatbelt mounts so it was even cheaper.

Here are a few picks of a homemade 5 point I did using a Jegs, Jegster 8 point kit I got for about $150. It is removeable (not easy though) and took a ton of time.

Had to take some measurements for the hoop and get it rebent at a local muffler shop. Other than that, no ther bends, just a lot of compound cuts and welding. Fits in there perfect, can even open and unlock the doors, use seatbelts, open back compartments etc.! Tons of time on it though.

Yeah, it adds rigidity to the birdcage which is mounted to the #3 & #2 body mounts so it kinda adds to the rigidity slightly for the frame. Its mainly a seatbelt mounting bar for a 4/5 point harness. Even the sharkbar with the hoops isn't approved for safety in the event of a rollover.
I needed something to mount my seatbelt harness to and a tube bender & materials would have amounted to a similar amount of dough.
I'm happy with it.
I love driving with the shoulder straps on.
