So the ac pump runs independently from the rest of the system and can be removed without needing a shorter belt?

That's the way it is set up on the LS1. There is a little sub-system for running the AC compressor. Very handy for me since I have a non-AC car.

Taking a week to correctly assemble an LS2 is probably appropriate. Heck, it took Mr. Schwartz 3 months to program that graphic sequence!

Wish to hell I could do ANY engine that quick.....even a 4 banger....

bet that's damn close to the speed they do it at the engine plant though...figger what?? 2 million of them a year?? 2000 hrs working time....1000/hour?? something like that.....even if it's only 100/hour and some figger is off by a factor of ten.....100 an hour is SCREAMING, man....
