Default What type of grease should I put on my sway bar bushings?

I removed the rubber sway bar bushings from my '79 to do some detailing. I am thinking I should put some type of grease or lube in the area they make contact with the sway bar, but am not sure what I should use. Any suggestions?

I use a dab of marine grease on my poly bushings to prevent squeaks.

The only thing (if anything) you should use on the stock RUBBER bushings is "Rubber Lube". Greases (petroleum products in general) will attack and break down the rubber.

My poly bushings squeeked badly till I wrapped the bar with teflon plumbers tape.

From what I understand,a rubber bushing shouldn't even move. The elastic property of the rubber is what allows the flexing to happen. On the other hand,a poly bushing doesn't flex, and acts more like a bearing.

The sway bar bushings do not call for any lube at all. They run dry.

On poly, use that or Amsoil synthetic. You want this to last, as when poly bushings squeak they are beginning to bind.

That's what VB&P recommends.

AMSOIL makes many synthetic greases. This is the one I keep lying around for this type of application: AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic Racing Grease, NLGI #2

Note that this grease does have a good resistance to water washout and passes the rust test.
