Go to the automotive department at WalMart. Find the touch-up paint section for autos. Find the whitest white and the redist red. Buy those along with a small small brush, either in the same section or in the model paints section. It's a regular "paint-by-numbers" fun fest and has lasted two years on my car.

You'd be amazed how well three bottles (black, white, red) of finger nail polish work.

On my 77 which is all cross flags (four of them) I soaked them in acetone/finger nail polish till all the old paint was gone. I used enamel testors model paint in gloss black, gloss white and the darker red. The red at walmart was too bright in my opinion so I went to a hobby store and got the next darker version. Bought some fairly decent artist artist brushes and kind of let if flow into place on the flags and around all the ridges. Lightly scraped any off the chrome after it dried. Just take your time. I applied several coats. I've hit it with the high pressure hose at car wash and it's holding.. figured if it held up to that it should be good. That was after letting it set for maybe a week or so, maybe longer.. Hope it's okay to post this url but this is a good article on restoring/repainting your emblems http://www.automedia.com/Reviving_Or...es20021101er/1

I used Testors model paint and tooth pucks to apply the paint. After letting the emblems soak in Aircraft remover, I washed them in soap and water and let them dry.

The, using toothpicks, I dabbed some paint in and moved at around. It spread very nicely and the colors were perfect.

Matt, those look great...but why do you have four side emblems?

The bowties would look awesome filled in with a contrasting color, something like silver or white.

I just had them and repainted them. I sold two of them to a forum member some time ago, and the others will be used as accents maybe.

I used Testors model paint, applied with a tooth pick, like Durango Boy. Same results.

I just did my nose and gas door emblems from my 69 last weekend. While I was painting I noticed that the checkered flags were very different on the two emblems. The nose emblem had a black check in the upper left hand corner and the white on the emblem was sort of an off-white cream color. The gas door emblem had a white check in the upper left hand corner and the white was more of a very pale gray. I'm trying to figure out which one is the after market replacement and which pattern is correct for a 69. The red paint was the same on both pieces.

I've done much the same process, but used Porcelain brand craft paints (intended for glass & metal crafting). The difference is that you actually bake the paint to make it hard and durable (sun and weather). Strip all the old paint and wash the emblems. Use a fine painter's brush to put a drop of paint in each area and let the paint flow across the area to be painted...don't brush it. Keep the emblem relatively level while each color dries. Once fully dry, bake as directed, cool them and install. They will look better than the originals and they are close to indestructable. (Get the paint at Michael's Arts/Craft stores.) White, black, crimson red.

Although I've bought new items to put on mine, I was going to "just for the hell of it" fix up the old ones using powder coating...

Default I don't feel so bad!

Man
I really didn't have the $$$ to buy new emblems for my car so I went to Walmart and got the little bottles of paint(with the brush in the lid) and carefully painted them in!
I went with three coats and one clear coat and it has lasted a year and a half now and looks just fine!
Now that I know alot of you other guys have done the same I don't feel so bad!

Default Exacto knife for cleaning up edges

Don't get frustrated trying to keep the paint off of those small chrome raised areas in the center and trying to get the edges straight. Just let the paint dry and use an exacto knife to scrape it off. Makes a professional looking job.
