Default Bee Jay's new AFR 195s Heads

My new heads are in. I just need to remove the old AFR 190s and install these. Wasn't there a sticky about oil drain problems? How do I tell if my heads have the fix? I hope these heads really are the greatest thing since sliced bread. 195cc, 65cc combustion chambers, part# 1040. Got them at K's customs. They had them in stock.

Thanks G-cool. You are the man when it comes to these high performance small blocks. LT4 Hot Cam hydraulic roller with conversion lifters next. 3.850 crank, 396 some day.

So I guess you'll be selling the old 190s really really cheap?

Nope. A friend of mine, and a friend of the guy who ported and polished my 190s into 195s, was looking to buy some aluminum heads for his truck. I told him about all the ranting and raving that was going on about the new AFR street eliminators. He was not interested in in spending $1500, but his budget was $1000. I said I would sell him my AFRs with with the 1.6 ratio rockers for $1000. At first he declined, but our friend that put a billion hours into porting and polishing the old AFRs convinced him that $1000 was a steal, and that he was going to spend $1000 for a good set of aluminum heads anyways. So I bought these heads and some Harland Sharp 1.65 ratio rockers for about $600 out of pocket. Good trade?

my 396 is almost done. the crank you want is 3.875. i went with a 72cc afr 195's and a 6" rod along with srp -5cc flat top pistons. it gave me right at 10.5 comp. here are a few pics as it sits right now.

it's the stock 2 bolt block out of my 75, but has been very well prepped. it was a 2 bolt but had the splayed cap conversion and studs installed. the lifter valley has also been polished. it was 0 decked and line honed. i used the 1200* aluminum paint for the block. i will be doing a thread on the whole car and the engine build in the comming months.

Daum that's sweet. What intake is that? I may need a low rise single plane real soon, cause my LT1 manifold is not matching these AFR 195s.

Temp sender is on intake, fan control switch is in the head and uses the small hole included. I'm unbolting one set of AFRs and replacing with another.

Did it bolt right up? Is it still made? What felpro gasket did you use. My old heads and intake were port matched to felpro 1206, and that's much taller than these new AFRs. Also, judging by the stamped steel timing cover, I'm guessing you're not running hydraulic rollers. I would like to know more about your 396.

it is port matched to a 1205. the gasket had to be trimmed very slightly but it worked out fine. the intake is still available and is a great choice for the street as i have been told by many that have run them. i took the intake to comp. coatings down the street from me and they had it done in a few days. i was going to use a 1206 but that would have meant porting the heads more than what i wanted to. i went with the theory that the heads flow fine as is so why take the risk of changing something and possibly having a negative impact on performance. the heads flow plenty for what i am doing and will give me great throttle responce. if i were using it for all out racing i might have gone the 1206 route. i used a crower 00471s hyd roller cam with crower retro roller lifters and a double roller timing chain. i went with the hydra rev kit also. i am using a 1" wilson spacer and a mighty demon carb. the rods and crank are eagle forged 6" h beams and 3.875" stroke. the pistons are srp forged -5cc flat tops. this along with the 72cc head and 0 deck give me a good quench and a comp. ratio of 10.5. my dcr came out to 8.1 or 8.2 i cant remember off hand. i went with a hamburger oil pan and used a 1 piece gasket and the spreader kit. all bolts are arp 12 point or studs. the timing cover was a left over from a build at the machine shop and was a very good deal not sure who makes it. it had a cam thrust stop with it. i am not sure why more people dont build a 396 instead of a 383. the cost is about the same.

Hey, do these heads come with teflon umbrella guide seals? I just might have to remove a pair of valves to get a better look. I'll take pictures.

Roger that. Had them in stock, and since they are right there in LA County, I got them in a day. Hey, I just pulled my old AFRs off and it's only 6:30pm. I need to do some cleaning, but I could start bolting the new heads on tonight. Matter fact I would if the car was in the garage, but the car is outside on the lift because I'm dealing with some Transmission mount issues. Mabye I'll bolt the new heads on tomorow after work. The headers are here already, so the car should be running this week. Hey I'm off on the 4th of July!!!. The car will definitely run this week.

I checked on that site...
Are those prices the same as MSRP direct from AFR?
Still not bad knowing they have them in stock... but shipping to NJ?? Lol... might be cheaper from AFR direct... now i gotta go see where they are!
