How do I replace a broken mast on a power antenna?
I have an 80-82 am/fm/CB power antenna that has a broken mast. Is replacing the mast a difficult job to do and can any of you advise me on how I should go about doing this? Thanks!

It is a PITA to get the upper nut loose because it is clear up next to the fiberglass surface. It has been many years ago, but it seems to me that I used one of the mid sized long jawed vice grips. Because there is so little room up inside the fender that you can't really use any normal type wrench.
Look at your new power antenna and you see what I'm talking about.

What exactly is broken? The chrome mast sections or just the smallest section with the tip on it? Not hard to replace any of the parts, but it's getting real hard to find the parts.
Got your PM and gave you my email.

Just the load coil for the CB? I see those occasionally on ebay. A guy that goes by 78savette might have one.
I see in the new Corvette America catalog that they list a AM/FM/CB power antenna that appears to be a GM "service replacement" for the late79-82s. Direct bolt it and wire in. $250 tho. Pt. no. 30119

I feel your pain on this. The CB load is an integral part of the antenna mast and doesn't work without it correctly. My CB load broke as well and I had to epoxy it back together on the end and then used gray heat shrink tubing to suck it all together. It looks ok and works until I buy a new one. Good luck finding a new load, they are hard to come by even on eBay.
If you happen to find some, shot me mail and let me know where.
