Question on Magnum Roller tip rockers
I just installed mine on my motor, but when I started to tighten for adjustment the socket bound as the rocker seated.
Do I need a special thin wall socket to adjust them for lash or ??????

Re: Question on Magnum Roller tip rockers (BLT-71)
I also have the comp cams roller tip 1.6's. I always try to use 6 point sockets only. For the rockers I use a deep 3/8th drive without a problem. I use .100 over length chromemoly push rods with screw in studs and guide plates. Your saying the the socket binds against the sides????? I would have to see what's going on. Is it possible your out of thread on the stud. That is one of the reasons for longer push rods.

Re: Question on Magnum Roller tip rockers (BLT-71)
I remember running into that when I was installing mine. Seems like I just tried a few different sockets until I found one thin enough to work. 6-point socket, probably. Seems like the Stanley brand sockets I have are generally thinner than the Craftsman or Husky brands. (I'm afraid I don't have a very deep brand loyalty for tools!
If nothing else, you can always get an el-cheapo socket from the auto parts store and grind it down until it'll work.
Good luck! :seeya

Re: Question on Magnum Roller tip rockers (yellow 72)
I was wondering - Years ago when I had them I think that they came with "Crimped nuts" so they aren't true on the sides. So at first I put on nylocks then I went to allen locking

I had the same problem when i used those rockers. what i did was just try not to put the socket on all the way and tighten the nuts. the closer you come to having them on all they way the harder this becomes. but that is what worked for me. keep tightening and removing the socket untill it is finished. that way you can take the socket off when you are done.

Re: Question on Magnum Roller tip rockers (BLT-71)
I am going to go buy a thin wall socket on the way home today.
The craftsman sockets are thick so that should do the trick.
I hope the rockers hold up to the solid lift cam.
Thanks for the help again.

I noticed that you are currently running the cam that I decided to put into the big block that I am building. How do you like it? What RPMs do you run your engine to? How often do you have to check the valve lash?

Re: Question on Magnum Roller tip rockers (bence13_33)
I have run it up to 7000 rpm but I have my shift light at 6400 rpm right now. That seems to give me the best times. I check the valves about twice a year and have only had to adjsut them once in 3 years. I have the Crane Cool nuts on mine similar to poly loks and they hold the adjustment fine. They fit under the stock covers also. I only wish I had slightly more compression. I estimate I'm right around 10.1 with this cam I think a little more compression would help. I like the cam so far but I'm always looking for more. A roller is in the future but the distant future right now.
