Bird, I took it to mean that the earth lead had been twisted together then taped over, rather than replacing it with a single piece of wire...

It looks to me like Bubba ex-pertly fab-crafted this beauty from 2 pieces of cable (one red, one black) twisted the ends together and then covered his workmamship over with black electrical tape. That makes this mod "special" in my eyes..

Yeah they have pretty crappy codes

We had to use a non reversible way of connecting the two wires. It was either buy a 500 dollar hydraulic machine or braze it.

I don't see why it has to be irreversible as it's pretty easy to cut

Grounding conductors must be continuous and unbroken.

Yea, got it to the point where it will drive out of the garage a couple weeks ago. Then the brake booster went sshhhhh, when I pressed the pedal. Always something . Took 2 weeks off the C3 so I could rebuild the C4 motor and do some mods. Its my daily driver so it gets priority.

good one....

Here's another example: If I pour 3'x18' concrete, 6" thick, I need a permit, moisture barrier, reinforcement and termite treatment. Now.. this is not a foundation - it's a darn walkway to my front door.... but if it's poured in place it's considered a foundation... at least that's what I was told at the building dept.... now, the same guy (at the building dept) told me that if I pour it in a form, f.e. 6 blocks 3'x3' each...and then set the blocks in place... then I don't even need a permit
