But, one could leave the heads on, right?

Yes, you can leave the heads on to change the springs. You would need to use compressed air to pressurize the chamber or fill it with nylon rope.

... or do what I did, if possible. Turn the cylinder you're doing to TDC. The piston will stop the valve dropping in & you should be able to change the springs without messing about with rope or compressed air. I was easily able to do mine this way with stock heads, pistons & valves. To be safe, remove the plugs so that you're sure that the piston is at TDC & don't forget to turn the engine to TDC again when you step on to do the next cylinders valves. I used a little clamp (from Summit?) to compress the springs & just used my fingers to pull the valve tip up enough to be able to drop the collets (keepers) in.

I went through a lot of threads and it seems that the 268H fill fit my application and the computer will work with it. Roller lifter? almost $1000 ! I think I'm just gonna go easy on my first camshaft swap and go for a flat tapped hydraulics lifters and roller tip rocker arms.
Can I get the 1.6 ratio rocker arms with stock valve springs without binding??

Angle.....You keep referring to the GM151 as the L82 cam. This is incorrect! The GM151 cam (GM#3863151) is the cam that originally came in the 350hp/327 engine. Not the L-82.

In days past, I had a 1978 Silver Anniversary with L-82. I replaced the L-82 cam with the GM151 cam which I have always liked. It killed the vetts performance for some reason. Switched it back after 1 week. All was good again.

Just food for thought!

I have the crane 2040 (same as H266) in my 73. Bored over .030, Edelbrock 64cc heads, Holley spreadbore 4175 carb on Edelbrock intake.
Magnaflow exhaust system.
Runs great and I average about 18mpg with the od trans and 3.55 gear.
I was going to change cams but the car runs to good to mess with.
Before I added the exhaust and tuned the carb with an AFR meter a Dynojet chassis dyno put it at 220hp, 277max torque in 3rdgear at the wheels for what its worth.

I had a 76 L82 with a T400 and replaced the cam with an Isky 264 Mega cam 214-214 .450 lift on a 108 lsa. Lots of low and mid range punch with that cam and a nice throaty idle. Nice cam for a low c r 350.
