Oil pump question
When changing my oil pump the other day I had one heck of a time witht the sleeve. The shaft didn't want to go in. After I got it assembled, I held it to a bright light and it looked like I had around 1/4" engagement.
I don't have my distributor right now to double check, Lars is rebuilding it for me.
Does this sound right?

Put it back together with the old sleeve. Measure the assembly height. Compare to the new assembly.

are you useing an new steel shaft w/steel sleeve or still trying to use the nylon coupler with the old shaft. If your trying to use the nylon pos, go get a new steel shaft with steel sleeve pinned to it. If you are attepmting to use the nylon pos then they should fit together pretty snug in the sleeve and have full engagement of the slot cut into the pump and the tang on the drive shaft.

Thanks Bird, I'm pretty dumb sometimes.
442, I'm using the plastic, but now that you opened my eyes, I can go to the lathe and turn up a sleeve and roll pin it to the shaft.

You guys just amaze me
Fast, accurate and always willing to help
Well, now that I have your ear (or eye) maybe I should open the door for more advise.
I yanked the leaking original radiator (74). So-o-o-o, "while I was at it" new p.s. pump, new fuel pump, new timing chain/gears, new oil pump, repaint block, leave a.c. off (doesn't work), POR on the radiator frame and paint on all new parts.
Leaving it bone stock as I'm building a house soon, just want a couple of rides in the summer.
Any advise or suggestions?

My real goal it to make it more reliable as I'm going to keep it till I die because my dad bought it new in 74. It'll then go to my nephew, no kids of my own.
