Drop Base Air Cleaner Question
Gentlemen,
I am thinking about replacing my Performer intake with a Performer RPM Q-Jet. I am planing on keeping the Lars' modded Q-Jet for now. My question is, will the 1970 LT-1 air cleaner base (see below), fit a Q-Jet?
This is on the '75 with a stock hood.

Yes, I have the same drop base that I used on my stock Q-jet and now on my Holley 670 Avenger. I have a 72, the 75 hood is higher than a 72. I just installed a Proffessional Products square bore 4.65" high intake (Performer RPM is 5.25" at the highest point) with the Holley along with the drop base air cleaner, a 3" open element. I have about 1/4" clearance left. This is measured from the highers point on the air cleaner lid to the hood. Best of luck. Mark

I just completed my intake and can vouch for the Holley drop base too. I have a stock 76 L82 and just installed the Performer RPM intake, a 670 cfm holley street avenger, and a 3" K&N filter in the holley drop base filter kit yesterday. I'm certain Holley makes the Summit #sum-239433 too which is $35 as well. It just has a plain lid and claims a 1 3/16" drop. I compared both and the bases are identical.
I have to addmit, once I screwed the nut on the filter, I didn't think the hood would close without damage. I figured I'd have to go get the 2" filter. I set the hood down gently (no 10" drop yet ) and push it at the corner until it latched and the hood never hit the nut.
I'm picking up some clay today to see the actual clearance. Since I have steel mounts I would think about 1/4 to 1/2" clearance should be enough. BTW I have no hood mat or retainer stud either.
Maybe this will help your situation..
