Default Pushrod Clearance

I was going over my 406 engine specs with my machinist when he mentioned pushrod clearance. I FORGOT TO DO THAT!!! Off with the intake and mask off the heads...grind away .040 on the intake side to get the recomended .060-.080 side clearance.
Has anyone else had this problem with AFR heads? You put out a ton of money for these, only to modify something that should already be incorporated into a high performance big money head. Nothing short of off-set lifters or rockers would have eliminated grinding them out cause they were tight.
No trick/exotic valve train components here either...just a straight up roller cam, lifters, & rockers. I'm not happy....
