How do you adjust the emergency brake on a 1980 vette
The handle pulls all the way up before it gets a good hold. I am trying to figure out if they automatically adjust when you back up or apply the E-brake repeatedly. Whats the scoop?

To my knowledge, there is no automatic adjustment on those. If you get a "good hold" with the handle pulled up to any position, then consider yourself good. The E-brake on these are not a fun place to spend any time.

First thing is to take the rear tires off and adjust the emgency brake.
1 Lossen brake cable at equalizer check nuts until the parking brake lever moves freelyto the "off" position with slack in the cable.
2 Turn the rear disc until the adjusting screw can be seen through the hole in the disc.
3 Insert an screw driver (Flat Blade) through the hole in the disc and tighten the adjusting scre by moving your hand away from the floor on both left & right sides
4 Tighten until disc will not move, then back off six to eight notches
5 Instal rear tires
6 Place parkingbrake handle in applied position (Where you would like the handle to be located when parking brakes are appied)
7 Tighten check nuts until 80lb pull is obtained while pulling into your next notch from above.
This all works as long as everything else is working fine with your emergency brakes. Other problems could be you need new shoes, cable streched, etc.
