Sounds Good - Rear Speakers
Who makes the best aftermarket bos speakers for the rear of a C3 vert? I don't care to have a subwoofer or amplifier, but I would like to have good rich sound in a small enclosure, for when I not listening to the engine roar.
I'm running an Alpine stereo with stock speakers. The stereo will stay, but the speakers will soon be replaced with better units.

I've used a lot of Bose products, including the QC2 headphones and #151's for my patio speakers. They all work great, but I haven't given them much thought for car audio. Do you mind if I ask what model you used?

You already have a pair; they're the 151"s. I got such a deal on them at the time that I thought I try them in my Vette. As I mentioned, they work pretty good, pretty good being the operative word. Since my radio is the original, I don't think the sound is top notch when compared to the systems of today. However, as you already have the speakers, hook them up and give them a try. With a newer radio, they might just sound great. While I know little about radio systems, the volume output is quite lacking with these speakers which may mean something to someone who knows audio. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't discount a sub. I am running a Kenwood WooX and it is perfect for the Vette. It is powered and small (read: It will fit in the back and you don't need acres of amps to drive it). It gives just a little more thud to the tunes. It won't rattle the license plate but it really does wake up a sound system, especially in the small space of a Vette. Here is a link to it at Crutchfiled. It also covers the Infinity Basslink which may be another option.

I am considering putting some marine 6x9's in the back of my vert. Just in case I'm out driving and a light sprinkle wets the top then I want to go vert again. The marine speakers should be fine if they get a bit wet. Just a thought I've been toying around with.
Don't know if sound quality is less crisp then pure auto speakers.
I've dealt with Kenwood and pioneer speakers and never been disapointed. Have only heard good things about the Kappas too.

I have got the Infiniti 6x9 Kappa 3 Way Series…in the back of my 69 convert with a sealed enclosure speaker box similar to Ecklers that I built myself for $75 vs. $200 Ecklers price. It came out great and I got the speakers on eBay because they were so much cheaper. The 3 way kappa's are very nice having built in cross-overs, etc. and also a little button to press if you want the high's amplified even more than normal.
Since you do not want to run an amp you need to be careful about the "ohm" rating on the Infiniti/Bose vs. other speakers. The lower the "ohm" rating the more efficient the speaker is needing less power to sound just as loud & clear at the same comparable amp outage that your tape deck is putting out. Both the Infiniti & Bose are 2 ohm's while all others are at the more standard 4 ohm. In other words…an Infiniti/Bose speaker hooked up to the same system will sound much louder than your typical 4 ohm speaker.

I'm really a n00b when it comes to audio, but if I understand you correctly, you are saying I could blow out the lower ohm speakers?

I was planning the same....you got a number for that Bose speaker? The ones in there are the stock, 4 or 10 ohm?....don't remember, but not 8 ohm...

I was just refering to the radio...mine is the orig and works fine for me with the 151's. What radio do you have and does it fit in the orig location or did you have to make mods?
