All,

I am replacing interior parts; seat covers, door panels and pillars. I received the parts and they are a 'bright' red by comparison to the 37 year old colors.

I bought the correct year red dye from Corvette America for my '69 but the color matches the old darker color(perfectly I might add), not the new.

So I don't waste time and money on trying to find the correct color, can anyone point me in the right direction.

No. I don't want to dye the new parts as they match the seat cover color and new carpet color.

who manufactured the new "brite" parts , does it say corvette america on the label , who manufactured the dye? , if they are coming from two diff sources , may have try to stick w/one to get the same color.

I got the parts from Ecklers but Ecklers does not have spray dye. They only sell it in Quarts and I do not have the equipment for that.

Take one of your new trim pieces, or a piece of new carpet to any SEM automotive paint supplier and ask for the interior dye color chips. Match your new red to the SEM chip and order a quart.

You can spray the SEM dye (it's a lacquer) with a small (1 1/2 hp) compressor from Sears and a touch up gun (also Sears).

Worked for me.

Make sure you use the grey primer underneath the dye first, if you spray the die over the existing finish it will just get darker.

The color of red you are describing sounds like the 1980 or 1981 red interior color

Get a can of the 1980 and 1981 and try them both if your objective is to stay with the new red of your trim pieces.

Mid America Motor Works for the dye and plastic prep. You can try the dye after the plastic prep and check for color or use a gray primer first.

Go down to Auto Zone & get their dye, or at least you can check the colors locally. It's 1/2 the price & ever bit as good as the stuff you have to order.

Thanks for the replies. I do stand corrected on my reply about Ecklers not having spray dye. I called them and they pointed me to the dye. I ordered some. We will see if it matches. If not I will take the advice of Easy Mike and get it matched.

One question though, was the original interior red in 69 a darker red? I am assuming this darkness came from years of aging. Here is a pic of the interior. Note the door color(It is much darker than the photo)

I used to knock them but they do have a very good inventory.... Just about everything you could need

Of course you have to find the right person at the counter
