Well my yearone 400hp roller motor showed up today and I need to know what type of distributor grear i need for the roller cam.

Depends on the cam. You need to provide that piece of information to get the right answer.

Don't know the manufacture of the cam but i know it has 218/228@050 and .520 lift. Its similar to the gm hot cam

You need a hardened (melonized) gear. GM and MSD distributors come with them or you can buy them separately.

I have the distributor that came out of the old motor its a gm distributor but i dont now from what year.

Don't use the old distributor gear on that new motor whether it's melonized or not. Go to Bill Heard and buy a new one, they should keep them in stock. Sallee chevy has a good write up on how to break in a new gear also on their website.

Suggest you ask yearone exactly which gear to fit your GM dist & their cam ... tell them exactly which GM dist you have and tell them you do NOT want a bronze gear ... get mfg, brand & P/N from them. Cam gears made from various materials/subjected to various treatments ... at this point, No One besides yearone can know what your cam gear is.
