TH200R4 search options.
I'm looking locally within my sate for a used TH200R4. I have a search engine designed for a world network of salvage yards and junk yards. I found during the search process that there are three options.
1: W/O Overdrive
2: W/ Overdrive W/O Multifit Case
3: W/ Overdrive W/ Multifit Case
Obviously I don't want #1 because that defeats the whole purpose of getting the transmission.
My question is, do I want a multiit case or not and what's the difference?

I believe a multifit case has a larger bellhousing that has several engine patterns. If I were planning on keeping it, I would go for no mulifit case. If there was a chance I was going to sell in the future, the multifit would appeal to a larger audience. Of course I don't know about clearance with the larger flange so that may be an issue.

Cool, but either will fit my 350/400 SBC blocks?

I'd agree that you want the overdrive. If not, why would you bother using this tranny? I would, however, be concerned about w/o multifit case option. I don't know all of the cars that these trannys were originally on, but I do know that they were used on Caddys and Buicks. I'd be nervous that the one that it wouldn't fit would be yours.

You must use a multi-fit case. The only other case only fits the Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac series of engines.
Here are some 2004R codes that identify what vehicle they come from.

I'm looking at a trans to buy. Joplin MO, which is driveable. It's from a 1986 Pontiac Parisienne. It's a multifit case, and was just rebuilt. $250. Add gas to pick it up, and that's a $350 transmission. Then I have to buy the shift kit. Overall, I think I'll pay $500 for this whole project.

If you are making any hp at all you don't want a stock 200r4,in stock form they are very weak and will only support about 350 hp.A built 200r4 will take clear up to 1000 hp,but the are pretty costly.
