$895 for a new manifold and $295- 355 for a fuel rail kit (depending on the car)

That's obscene...I can buy a full, complete '94 LT1 for literally half that and just drop in the whole motor. If I do some engine mods, I can spend the other $450 and have a fresh set of bearings, rings, gaskets, gears, and valves.

I'll pass on the mini-ram, thanks.

I could get 4-5 LT1 manifolds, complete with the injectors and fuel rails, drill the distributor hole and buy the small-base HEIs for the same price as one of those bare minirams. Yikes!

That is why guys started to do it, once the Stealth Ram come out the price was cheaper than the Mini-Ram but not that much more than converting a LT1 and gave better all around performance than either the Mini-Ram or LT1 intakes.

Anyone got a good Stealth Ram link? I've seen them but all are overpriced. Who's a good source for them?

The TPI was designed for a 305, not a high rpm setup even w/ mods on a 383!

But, they sure did put it on a LOT of 5.7s. Did they mod it at all when they first decided it was a good 350 intake system?

Bigger injectors. From what I've read, a 350 is right at the edge of what a regular-design TPI can handle. That crazy thing on top of the ZR1 engine is a different story...it looks like something of a hybrid between the TPI and LT1 manifold designs.

Wasn't that motor an import of some kind? Built foreign and installed locally? Maybe that's smoke, I don't know.

Lotus designed the ZR1 engine, Mercruiser built them. I'm not a huge fan of the C4 body style, but I'd love to drive one of those crazy things.

No kidding. I heard that engine was an obscene money option, like $16,000 or something.

Not saying it was cheap. Just, the same, performance-wise.

Actually, a base corvette cost $32,000 the ZR-1 option added another $33,000 to the price of the car. When they (LT-5) first became available as a crate engine (mid-90's) they were listing in the area of $25,000.

SURE IT WOULD!!! Not very impressive in the power department though. Tim Allen's LT-5 powered Impala SS only made 425hp.

I gave up on the "burn a chip" EFI systems about 6 years ago. I got some of the first Holley Commander 950 MPFI systems for my 1980 Vettes. One has a 406 SBC and the other has a 540 BBC. I have been very happy with the Holley tech support and the data logging / tune-ability of the Commander 950 system. My 406 SBC has Comp Cams XR288 HR - which has less LSA than recommended by most tuners. Even with that cam and a 6 speed manual, I was able to tune for good drive ability.

I short, I would recommend you look at an EFI system you can tune REAL TIME with a laptop computer. I like the Holley Commander 950, but there are others like Electromotive, Big Stuff, Motec etc.

Good Luck!

Just read that site over, and I could put a full system on my 405 for $1700. Not THAT bad considering how much you get, almost no fabricating, and not tuning.

Hmm...
