Default what kind of big block do I have???

I am trying to get a replacement oil pan and I thought it would be easy. Now I am seeing that there are some different versions. This is a newer crate motor. Pictures of the oil pan can be seen on my web site listed below. Here is a picture of the valve cover label.

The oil pan I want has the following dimensions:
Width 10 1/2"
Length of sump 10 3/4"
Length from front of pan to sump 13"
Depth of pan just before the sump 4 1/2"
Total depth 8"

Does anybody know what kind of BB I have? MARK IV, VI or whatever????

Thanks,

I don't have my big block book with me, but I would guess it's an early Generation (Mark VI) block. They are good (expensive) motors. I'm sure someone here can help you figure out the casting #'s on it.
Does it have a mechanical fuel pump mounted at the front of the motor?

If it's a H/O motor, you have a goodie

Click on this link for more info

You still need to determine if it is a H/O.
We will get to the bottom of this

It does have a mechanical fuel pump. Looks like the origional. The intake also looks like the origional aluminium intake. It has the same valve covers as the one you have pictured, not that it means much.

I don't think the stock intake would have bolted up to the HO motor with rectangular port heads. Any ideas?? Other than tearing it apart??

I just got the number off of the block. #12550313. I can't find it on the page you sent me. Atleast it has the right amount of numbers in the part number. The number on the sticker that was on the valve cover was T912080286 but it is right under a bar code so I don't think that it will help unless I have a bar code reader.

Your block is from a '91 and up Gen V crate motor or a Gen VI bare block according to http://www.mortec.com

Taht is a great web page. Need to bookmark that. So, I guess my origional question about the oil pan means that I need one for a 91 and up. Thanks

I knew the motor was new. Just didn't know what it was. Still don't, really.

Now you have me trying to figure out what the carb is....

It's a new holley on a spacer, electric choke. The only numbers I can find are 80457-2 and 2888.

I found it.

80457 600 (F)69,(R)plate 134-39 6.5 4160
80457-1 600 (F)64,(R)plate 134-39 6.5 4160

I guess that is next on my items to sell, Plus the origional intake.......

if you have a crate Mark V or VI 454 or 502, they will not fit in a vette with the 5 Qt oil pan that comes with it. You need part number 12495360, which is a 4qt, comes with all gaskets, and is made so the 454 or 502 Mark V or VI will fit in early model frames.

Also be aware, if you are running a manual tranny, the Mark V has no clutch linkage pivot hole, or boss, and has no fuel pump hole for mechanical fuel pump

The Mark VI has the clutch boos, but no hole, except for the 454 ho, which has fule pump hole as well

How do you feel about running a big block on 4 qts? I wanted more, not less. I do see what you mean with the fit in a Vette. The oil pan looks like it is resting on the steering parts.

If that is my only option, where can I order one of the pans you listed and does it require a different pick-up?

thanks,

4 quarts in the pan & 1 in the filter. I think 5 quarts are OK, but if you want more, Milodon makes larger pans for a 'Vette.
Just remember, the more oil you have sitting under your motor takes longer to heat up, & more surface/substance to cool off.
